Baseball's Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped At Rose-Hulman

The Wabash baseball team saw its five-game winning streak end Tuesday evening with a 7-1 loss at Rose-Hulman.

Wabash (12-3) came into the game averaging 13 hits and 9-1/2 runs per game but were limited to three hits in the nine-inning affair at Rose-Hulman (9-4). The loss is the eighth in a row against Rose in games played in Terre Haute. The Little Giants' last road win at Rose-Hulman came in 2003.

The host Fightin' Engineers struck first by scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. Wabash tied the game in the top of the fourth. AJ Reid opened the inning with a double. Noah Luebbehusen delivered a one-out single to score Reid from second and tie the game at 1-1. Rose-Hulman scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning with a grand slam off the bat of Andy Krajecki, who finished the game with 5 RBI overall.

Rose added two more runs in the seventh inning to provide the six-run cushion.

Reid, Luebbehusen, and Liam Patton picked up the only hits for the Little Giants. Wabash was held to six base runners for the evening, adding a walk and two hit batters to its totals for the game.

Tavic Simmons took the loss on the mound after working four innings of four-hit baseball. He surrendered five earned runs and two walks overall. Grant Stratton game up one earned run, four hits, and one walk to go with three strikeouts in three innings of relief work. Gavin Patrick pitched the eighth inning for Wabash and struck out one batter.

The Little Giants look to regroup on Saturday when they begin North Coast Athletic Conference play with a home doubleheader against Allegheny College beginning at noon.
