Recent Wabash College graduate Austin Simmers earned 2022 All-Region 7 honors at second base from both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday. Simmers earned a place on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 7 Second Team and was selected to the D3baseball.com All-Region 7 Third Team.
 
Simmers received his first all-region selections in 2022 after being selected to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball First Team for the second consecutive season. He tied for the conference lead and ranked 11th in the nation through the regular season in stolen bases with a total of 31. He eclipsed the 28-year-old Wabash single-season record of 30 previously held by Jerry Long.
 
Simmers led his Little Giants team and finished fourth among NCAC players with 49 runs scored during the regular season, marking the second-most runs scored in a single season in Wabash history. He also led Wabash with a total of 57 hits, the eighth-best among NCAC players. Simmers drew a team-best 28 walks during the 2022 season which also tied for third-best among conference players.
 
Simmers finished second on the Wabash team and 10th in the NCAC with a .453 on-base percentage. His .356 season batting average ranked third among Wabash players and 15th in the conference.
 
A four-year starter for the Wabash baseball team, Simmers swiped a total of 56 stolen bases to tie for third in the Little Giants' career record list.
 
Players chosen to the D3baseball.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The 2022 D3baseball.com All-America teams will be announced on June 1 at 8 a.m. Only players selected to the ABCA All-Region First Team are eligible for All-America selection by that organization.
