Little Giants Claim Conference Win At Kenyon In Closing Seconds

GAMBIER, OH -- Ahmoni Jones grabbed two huge rebounds and scored the final seven points for Wabash in the closing minute of play to help lead the visiting Little Giants past the Kenyon Owls 71-67 in North Coast Athletic Conference action Wednesday.

Wabash (10-3, 3-1 NCAC) had three players score in double figures, led by Jones, who had 21 points. Vinny Buccilla added 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals, and Sam Comer chipped in as well with 10 points and two steals.

Styles McCorkle tied the game at 64-64 with 2:48 left to play with a pair of free throws to help erase a nine-point Kenyon (7-6, 0-4 NCAC) second-half lead. Jones followed the McCorkle free throws with back-to-back baskets after Kenyon regained the lead with a free throw at 65-64. Kenyon's Miles Versa scored his 14th point of the game for the Owls to cut the Wabash lead to one point at 68-67 with 47 seconds left to play in regulation.

Jones grabbed a missed Kenyon shot attempt at the other end of the floor and was fouled to head to the free throw line with seven seconds on the clock. The junior drilled the first shot attempt to put Wabash in front 69-67 but missed on the second try. Style McCorkle tipped the ball back out to Jones for the offensive rebound. A quick Kenyon foul sent Jones back to the stripe, where he calmly put the final shots through the basket for the four-point road victory.

The Wabash defense forced 14 Kenyon turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Edreece Redmond led the way individually for the Little Giants with three steals.
