Tennis Sweeps Saturday Home Matches

It was Shutout Saturday for the Wabash College tennis team. The Little Giants scored a 9-0 home win over Principia College to open the day before shutting out Earlham College 7-0 in the nightcap.
 
Wabash (4-3) opened with a sweep at doubles against Principia (6-2). Alvaro Alonso-Sanchez and Cole Borden picked up an 8-2 victory in the first doubles flight. Liam Grennon and Cole Shifferly combined for an 8-2 win in the second doubles matchup. Augusto Ghidini and Ethan Koeneman won an 8-7 third doubles flight with a 7-3 victory in the tiebreaker.
 
Alonso-Sanchez needed three sets but picked up a victory at number one singles 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Boden won in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) at number two singles. Shifferly won his third singles flight 6-0, 6-1. Ghidini rallied from a first-set loss (6-4) to win the final two sets 6-2, 10-6 for a victory at number four singles.
 
Grennon won in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) in the fifth singles flight. Tharakesh Ashokar won 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles to complete the sweep.
 
Ghidini and Koeneman got Wabash started in the second match against Earlham (0-3)  with an 8-4 win at number one doubles. Jett Brownlee and Cole Langston combined for an 8-0 shutout win at number two doubles.
 
Ghidini claimed a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 victory at number one singles versus the Quakers. Ashokar scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at number two singles. Christan Zimmerman picked up a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win in the third singles flight. Blake Discher II also won 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles. Brownlee ended the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five singles.
 
Wabash travels to Orlando, Florida, to begin a series of matches during the College's spring break, starting with a match against Otterbein University on March 6.
