Wabash Rally Falls Short In Spring Break Loss To Wheaton

Box Score The Wabash College tennis team rallied from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play to even the score at 4-4 against Wheaton College (IL). The Thunder won the last singles match to claim the 5-4 decision in the Little Giants' first match in Orlando on their annual spring break trip.

Wabash (4-4) started its comeback at number three singles. Cole Shifferly scored a two-set win (6-2, 6-1) to earn the first point for the Little Giants. Liam Grennon added another point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six singles to bring Wabash to within a point of Wheaton (6-3).

Augusto Ghidini tied the team score at 3-3 after winning his fourth singles flight in three sets. He rallied from a 6-3 loss in the first set to win the second set 6-2 before claiming a 10-3 win in the third set.

Tharakesh Ashokar captured the number five singles point with a two-set win by scores of 7-5, 6-2. Wheaton evened the score at 4-4 at number two singles to put the balance of the contest in the number one singles match. The Thunder won that match along with the team victory with a three-set win.

Wabash planned to play Otterbein University Monday evening in Orlando, but an evening rain soaked the tennis courts and postponed the match. No make-up date has been scheduled during the two team's week-long visit to Orlando.

Wabash will play St. Thomas (FL) at noon on Wednesday.
