Wabash Opens 2026-27 Tennis Season at Warhawk Fall Invitational

The Wabash College tennis team opened the 2026-27 season Friday and Saturday at the Warhawk Fall Invitational, with the Little Giants collecting a series of singles and doubles victories.

Rafael Rin opened play in the No. 2 singles flight with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lake Forest College's Rodrigo Cunha. Rin battled through three sets in the second round before falling 2-6, 6-4, 14-12. He earned third place in the flight by injury withdrawal in his final match.

Vittorio Bona rebounded from a 6-3, 6-2 opening-round loss in the No. 3 singles flight. Bona won the first set of his next match 7-6 (7-3) against Lake Forest's Joao Vitor Espindola before Espindola retired because of injury. Bona closed the tournament with a 6-3, 3-6, 12-10 victory over Wabash teammate Samuel Soto Garcia.

Soto Garcia also competed in the No. 3 singles bracket. He earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over teammate Bernardo Furtado in the second round before falling to Bona in three sets.

Furtado lost his opening match 6-1, 7-5 before facing Soto Garcia in the second round. Furtado earned a walkover due to injury in his final match of the tournament.

Faustino Dimuro dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision in the opening round of the No. 4 singles flight before winning his next two matches. Dimuro defeated Olivet Nazarene's Keenen Haws 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, then closed the tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Lake Forest's Tim Pasea in the consolation final.

Ettore Bona opened the No. 5 singles flight with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olivet Nazarene's Elijah Hartford. Bona lost 6-2, 6-3 in the second round before earning a walkover against Lake Forest's Felip Varsanyi in the third-place match.

Eric Tien also competed in the No. 5 singles flight. He bounced back from a 6-3, 6-3 opening-round loss to defeat Olivet Nazarene's Adam Hartford 6-3, 6-4. Tien lost his final match 7-5, 6-1.

Matthew Haas scored a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olivet Nazarene's Oliver Ayoub in his opening match in the No. 6 singles flight. Haas lost a three-set match in the next round, 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 10-3. No result was available for his final playoff match.

Wabash also earned three doubles victories during the two-day tournament.

Ettore Bona and Rin opened the No. 2 doubles flight with a 6-4 victory over Roosevelt University's Lluc Mascaro Sierra and Jules Rumeau. The Wabash pairing lost 6-4 in the second round and 7-5 in the third-place match.

Vittorio Bona and Tien defeated Olivet Nazarene's Alex Hancock and Mason Greer 6-4 in their opening No. 3 doubles match. They lost 6-3 in the second round before facing Wabash teammates Dimuro and Soto Garcia in their final match.

Dimuro and Soto Garcia opened doubles play with a 6-1 victory over Olivet Nazarene's Aiden Belsly and Ethan Hirjak. After a 6-4 second-round loss, the Wabash duo finished the tournament with a 6-3 victory over Bona and Tien.
