TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Wabash College baseball team saw its four-game winning streak end with a 6-0 loss at Rose-Hulman Wednesday evening.
Junior AJ Reid (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Wabash (14-7). Senior Sam Phillips was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out one. Michael Hoppel worked one inning in relief, holding Rose-Hulman (10-6) without a hit while allowing only one walk. He struck out one batter.
Offensively, junior Kamden Earley paced the Little Giants by going 2-for-3 on the day with a double and a walk. Senior Brayden Lentz also compiled a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rose-Hulman scored a run in the third inning, then picked up three more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Little Giants collected five hits and drew three walks.
The Little Giants mounted a threat in the sixth inning when Earley drew a two-out walk, and Lentz followed with a single, but a flyout ended the inning.
Wabash managed one scoring chance with a runner on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Earley doubled to open the ninth inning and moved to third on a groundout by Lentz. William McKinzie reached base on catcher's interference, then Gavin Schippert drew a walk to load the bases. The inning and game ended on a double-play ground ball.
