The Wabash College lacrosse team scored two early goals and never looked back in a 9-3 victory over Randolph College of Virginia. The match was part of the Little Giants' spring break trip to the Virginia Beach area and was played at Cape Henry Collegiate High School.
Wabash (5-1) got a first-period man-up goal from
Quinn Fitzgerald to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.
Ethan Stonis added a second goal in the opening period to provide a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
Fitzgerald scored his second goal of the contest in the first three minutes of the second period. Stonis scored a second goal to put Wabash up 4-1 after Randolph (1-4) tallied its first goal of the game. Fitzgerald scored another man-up goal with 5:32 remaining in the first half for a 5-1 Wabash advantage at the break.Â
Stonis tallied two more goals in the third period to finish with four goals for the game.
Sam Santiago scored twice in the fourth period to provide the final two goals in the Little Giants' victory.
Wabash outshot Randolph 35-15 and was successful in 2-of-5 extra-man opportunities. Randolph converted 2-of-10 extra-man chances. The Little Giants were successful on 32 of 33 clear attempts and split seven of the 14 faceoffs in the game with Randolph. Â
Luka DiFilippo led the Little Giants with five ground balls.
Evan Stonis and
Artie Rogers both recorded a team-best two caused turnovers.
Braeden Cooper made seven successful saves in goal for Wabash.
The Little Giants close their East Coast trip with a Friday afternoon match at NCAA Division I Hampton University.
