Stonis Scores Four Goals In Home Loss To Oberlin

Ethan Stonis scored four goals for the Wabash College lacrosse team Saturday. The Little Giants could not overcome the offensive output from Oberlin, however, in a 20-5 loss in North Coast Athletic Conference competition at Fischer Field Saturday afternoon.

Stonis scored four goals on seven shots and added an assist and three ground balls for Wabash (7-3, 1-1 NCACA) in the loss. He tallied two of the Little Giants' first-period goals. Quinn Fitzgerald started the scoring for Wabash with a goal two minutes into the match to put the Little Giants in front 1-0 off a pass from Stonis.

The Little Giants took advantage of an illegal equipment penalty by Oberlin (6-4, 2-1 NCAC). Stonis scored a pair of extra-man goals during the one-minute penalty after Oberlin had taken a 4-1 lead to bring Wabash back to within a goal. He added his third goal of the game in the third period before scoring a final goal on one more extra-man chance in the fourth period. Wabash finished the game going 4-of-10 on extra-man opportunities.

Luka DiFilippo led Wabash with five ground balls and won 17-of-28 faceoff chances. Lucas Cunningham forced three turnovers on defense. Goalkeeper Braeden Cooper recorded 17 saves while facing 68 total shots and 37 shots on goal by the visiting Yeomen.

Wabash travels to DePauw University Tuesday afternoon for a 5 p.m. conference contest.
