Bruno Zamora's goal in the 41t minute drew the Wabash College soccer team even with Illinois Wesleyan Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Fischer Field. The Little Giants and Titans played to a 1-1 tie in a contest ended in the 80th minute due to darkness.
The start of Tuesday's match was delayed an hour and 14 minutes due to lightning. When the teams were finally able to take the pitch, Wabash (3-2-3) gave up a penalty kick on a foul in the box in the 35th minute. Illinois Wesleyan (2-3-2) capitalized on the kick by Mush Bakirdan for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead for the visiting Titans.
The Little Giants matched the score in the 41st minute.
Jesse Martinez delivered a corner kick that found Zamora on the right side of the Illinois Wesleyan goal. Zamora drilled a kick into the upper-left corner of the net for his second goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.Â
The teams played even through the final minutes of the first half and the remaining 35 minutes of the second before the contest was halted due to darkness.
Wabash put up 13 total shots and four shots on goal. Â Zamora put two shots on goal for the Little Giants as did
Hugo Garcia. IWU finished with four shots and one shot on goal on the penalty kick.Â
Wabash returns to action Saturday with a home match against Adrian College at 4 p.m.
