Early Goals Lead To Home Rout of Alma For Wabash Lacrosse

Quinn Fitzgerald scored six goals and gave out three assists to lead the Wabash College lacrosse team to a 20-5 home victory over Alma College Wednesday afternoon at Fischer Field.
 
Wabash (3-1) scored five goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Jake Pippen started the scoring, notching his first of three goals on the afternoon. Fitzgerald picked up his first goal less than a minute later to put the Little Giants in front 2-0. Sam Santiago tallied the next score, followed by a goal from Artie Rogers for a 4-0 lead. Pippen added his second goal with 10:30 left on the first-period clock to push the lead to 5-0. The Little Giants added a goal from Christian Dybedock before Alma (4-0) scored its first goal of the match.
 
Dybedock scored twice more in the first period, along with a second goal from Fitzgerald to lift Wabash to a 9-1 lead. Dybedock started the scoring in the second period as Wabash added four goals in the period to one for Alma. The Little Giants added seven more goals in the third to account for their 20 in the contest.
 
Dybedock finished with four goals in the contest. Pippen scored three times, and Santiago tallied two goals. Nate Jones, Luca Flaim, Blake Stephens, Evan Stonis, and Rogers each added one goal. In addition to Fitzgerald's three assists, Dybedock handed out two assists. Stephens, Santiago, Rogers, Will Sorg, and Zade Kalesperis picked up one assist apiece.
 
Wabash outshot Alma 46-20 and put 40 shots on goal compared to 13 by the visiting Scots. Colin Krekeler made four saves as the starting goalkeeper for Wabash. Hayden Hicks came on in relief to make three saves. Backup Collin Hamilton added one save. The Little Giants caused 16 turnovers. Jones led the way by generating four Alma turnovers. Luka DiFilippo won 16 of 18 faceoffs taken and led the team with seven ground balls recovered. Owen Hauber won three faceoff attempts for Wabash.
 
The Little Giants will travel to Virginia during the College's spring break. Wabash will open play against Husson University in a game scheduled at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on March 5.
