The Wabash College volleyball extended its winning streak to six matches Friday evening with two victories on the opening day of the 2024 Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois. The Little Giants defeated Edgewood and Wisconsin Lutheran by identical 3-0 scores.

The six consecutive wins are the most in the four-year history of the Wabash (6-1) program, eclipsing the four-match winning streak of last year's squad. The 2023 set the program record for total wins with nine.

BawiBawi Thang tied the team's three-set record for kills by putting away 18 attacks in the opening match against Edgewood (1-4). Thang finished with a .258 attack percentage while tying
Jackson Leeper's mark of 18 kills in a three-set match from the 2023 season.
Ricky Sessions recorded ten kills with a .296 attack percentage to go with three service aces.

Will Beikes gave out 39 assists in the first match for the Little Giants. Libero
Christopher Board led the team with 35 digs with only three reception errors for a .921 reception percentage for the match. The Little Giants produced eight total blocks, with
Patrick Volk leading the way with three block assists.

Wabash won the opening set against Edgewood 25-20, trading the lead twice with six ties. The second and third sets saw both teams exchange nine leads and play to 26 ties. Wabash rallied from an 18-14 deficit to claim a 27-25 win in the second set before scoring a 28-26 final-set victory after trailing 18-13.

The Little Giants led from start to finish in the opening set of the second match against Wisconsin Lutheran (0-5) to capture a convincing 25-11 victory. The two teams traded early leads in the second set until Wabash pulled away for a 25-10. The third set proved more of a battle, with 17 ties and six lead changes until the Little Giants evened the score at 24-24. An attack error by Wisconsin Lutheran gave Wabash a 25-24, and
Zev Wolverton put the match away with a final kill for the 26-24 victory.

Volk paced Wabash offensively in the second match with eight kills and a .375 attack percentage. Sessions added seven kills and scored a .636 attack percentage. Thang added five kills and finished with a .833 attack percentage. Beikes added another 14 assists. Volk also paced the defense with seven digs. Wabash recorded three solo blocks and 11 block assists in the match.

The Little Giants continue play Saturday with matches against Adrian College and Illinois Wesleyan University beginning at 10 a.m. Central Time.
