Wabash Honors Volleyball Seniors Before Friday's Home Match Versus Calvin

Wabash honored the four senior members of the 2024 men's volleyball team before the Little Giants' Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match against Calvin University on Friday evening. Wabash rallied in a five-set contest but could not capture the win in a 3-2 loss to the visiting Knights.

Julian Alvizo, Luke Davis, Carson Meadors, and Ricky Sessions were the first recruiting class for Wabash (13-7, 1-2 MCVL) when the program began four years ago. All four players started for Little Giants and led the team to a 27-25 victory in the opening set.

Calvin (4-14, 1-1 MCVL) led the entire second set to claim a 25-18 victory and even the score at a set apiece. The two teams battled back and forth in the third set, playing to a 12-12 tie before the Knights jumped in front for good to earn a 25-22 win.

Wabash took an early lead in the fourth set and raced out to a 14-8 lead. Calvin rallied to tie the score at 22-22 before the Little Giants closed out the set with two kills by Bawibawi Thang for a 25-23 victory to force the fifth and decisive set.

The Knights took a 13-6 lead in the finale before Wabash rallied to score seven of the next eight points to get to within a point at 14-13. But Calvin put the match away to claim their first MCVL victory in the first-year program's history with a kill by Jonathan Pfeifer.

Sessions led the Wabash offense with 16 kills. Shad Wilson put away ten kills and produced a .346 attack percentage. Thang finished with ten kills in three sets. Will Beikes gave out 24 assists in three sets for the Little Giants. Christopher Board paced the defense with a team-high 16 digs.

Wabash returns to action for its final home game of the 2024 regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Trine University.
