Lacrosse Drops Conference Opener At Kenyon

The Wabash College lacrosse team saw its winning streak end at six games after suffering a 23-4 loss at Kenyon College Saturday afternoon in the Little Giants' first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the 2024 season.

Wabash (7-2, 0-1 NCAC) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Blake Stephens five minutes into the contest. Kenyon (7-4, 1-1 NCAC) responded by scoring three goals in the opening period to take a 3-1 lead. The Owls scored three more goals in the second period before Stephens tallied his second goal of the match to cut the Kenyon lead to 6-2. The Owls tacked on two more goals in the period to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

Kenyon scored the first five goals of the second half before Christian Dybedock added a third Wabash goal. Artie Rogers scored the final goal for the Little Giants five minutes into the fourth period, but a 15-2 scoring advantage by the Owls over the final 30 minutes of action put the lead out of reach.

Stephens finished with two goals and an assist on the Rogers goal to lead Wabash on offense. The Little Giants put up 22 shots compared to 65 by Kenyon. Wabash goalkeeper Colin Krekeler made 15 saves. Quinn Shefferly and Luca Flaim each recorded four ground balls for the Little Giants. Shefferly and Lucas Cunningham each caused two turnovers on defense.

Wabash returns to action on Saturday, April 6, with a 2 p.m. home contest against Denison University.
