WOOSTER, Ohio — Wabash College controlled possession and outshot host Wooster on Saturday afternoon, but the unbeaten Fighting Scots scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute to hand the Little Giants a 2–1 loss in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
Wooster (9-0-4, 1-0-2 NCAC) struck first in the sixth minute when Aris Christodoulou netted his fifth goal of the season off a feed from Robert Hillhouse. The early strike came against the run of play, as Wabash (5-8-0, 1-2-0 NCAC) held the attacking edge for much of the first half. The Fighting Scots were reduced to 10 men in the 11th minute when defender Jacob Fried was issued a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity, but the Little Giants couldn't capitalize before halftime despite a 12–5 advantage in shots and six first-half corner kicks.
Wabash continued to press after the break and was rewarded in the 66th minute when sophomore
Bryce Kinnaman scored his fourth goal of the season, finishing a cross from
Alfredo Campos to level the match at 1–1. The Little Giants appeared poised to grab the lead, but Wooster's Taylor Uszacki answered in the 79th minute, converting from close range after a setup by Elliot Miller to restore the Scots' advantage.
Despite holding a 16–14 edge in total shots and an 8–0 margin in corner kicks, Wabash couldn't find an equalizer in the final 10 minutes. Goalkeeper
Colin Sutter made three saves for the Little Giants, while Wooster's Eddie Glucksman recorded five stops to preserve the win.
Francisco Perez led Wabash with seven shots, including one on goal, while Campos and
Ben Church each tested Glucksman once.
Wabash returns home for a pair of NCAC matches, beginning with a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, October 18, against Ohio Wesleyan University. The Little Giants will celebrate Senior Day against Oberlin College on Saturday, October 18, at 1 p.m.
