Late Goal Sends Wabash to 2–1 Setback Against Ohio Wesleyan

Crawfordsville, Ind. — A late goal spoiled a strong effort from the Wabash College soccer team Wednesday evening, as the Little Giants dropped a 2–1 decision to Ohio Wesleyan University in North Coast Athletic Conference play at Fischer Field.

Senior Francisco Perez provided the Wabash (5-9-0, 1-3-0 NCAC) highlight with his first goal of the season, drilling a 30-foot free kick into the left side of the net in the 34th minute to even the match at 1–1. Perez's strike came after the Battling Bishops (6-3-4, 2-1-0 NCAC) took an early lead on a header from Callum Wiggins off a corner kick in the 18th minute.

The teams battled evenly through much of the night before Ohio Wesleyan's Matt Boyd scored on a rebound in the 83rd minute to break the tie. Wabash continued to press forward in the closing minutes but could not find the equalizer.

The Little Giants matched the Bishops with 11 total shots and placed seven on target, forcing OWU goalkeeper Sam Whitman to make six saves. Wabash goalkeeper Colin Sutter stopped four shots and helped his team to a 6–2 edge in corner kicks.

Wednesday's contest marked the eighth one-goal match of the season for Wabash, which owns a 3–5 record in those tightly-contested games. The Little Giants return to NCAC action Saturday with a home match against Oberlin College at 1 p.m.
