The Wabash College soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style Saturday afternoon with a commanding 4–0 victory over Oberlin College at Fischer Field at Mud Hollow Stadium.
The Little Giants (6–9, 2–3 NCAC) honored seniors
Myles Bernat,
Jose Escalante,
Niall Gavin, and
Angel Vazquez before kickoff, then delivered one of their most complete performances of the season to earn their second North Coast Athletic Conference win.
Wabash wasted no time taking control, striking twice in the opening 10 minutes.
Bryce Kinnaman headed home a cross from
Danny Escobedo with help from
Ethan Simmons at the 8:48 mark for his fifth goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Kinnaman returned the favor, assisting on Simmons' third goal of the year from 12 yards out to put Wabash ahead 2–0.
The Little Giants continued to press in the second half.
Francisco Perez extended the lead to 3–0 in the 54th minute, bending a free kick from 22 yards inside the left post for his second goal of the year.
Colton Hughes-Suiters capped the scoring in the 75th minute when he collected a loose ball on the left side and fired home his first collegiate goal.
Wabash outshot Oberlin 17–3 and placed 10 shots on goal while limiting the Yeomen (4–9-2, 1–2-1 NCAC) to just three total attempts. Sophomore goalkeeper
Colin Sutter earned his first career shutout without facing a shot on goal in 90 minutes of play.
Wabash continues NCAC action when the Little Giants travel to Kenyon College for a 3:30 p.m. match on Wednesday.
