GAMBIER, Ohio — The Wabash College soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit Tuesday afternoon, falling 3–0 to Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Mavec Field.
Kenyon (5–3–6, 1–2–2 NCAC) struck twice in the opening 12 minutes to seize control. The Owls' Moustapha Gassama converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute after a Wabash foul in the box. Less than three minutes later, Lucas de Alarcon doubled the lead with a goal assisted by Joey Nigro.
Despite the quick start by Kenyon, Wabash (6–10–0, 2–4–0 NCAC) regrouped defensively and created chances of its own throughout the afternoon. Senior midfielder Alfredo Campos and sophomore forward Carson Prather each tested Kenyon goalkeeper Dominic Pratt in the first half, but both attempts were stopped. The Little Giants generated six second-half shots—including two on goal by Colton Hughes-Suiters and another by freshman Blake Horn—but were unable to break through.
The Owls added an insurance goal in the 71st minute when Joaquin Sanchez-Korenfeld scored from close range off assists by Hayato Ishii and Justin Buchwalter.
Sophomore goalkeeper Colin Sutter finished with seven saves while facing 20 total shots as Kenyon held a 20–8 advantage in attempts and 10–5 edge in shots on goal. The Owls also controlled possession for much of the match, holding a 63-37 percent advantage.
Wabash closes out its home schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against John Carroll University at Fischer Field. The contest marks the first meeting between the two programs.
