CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Wabash College dropped a 3–1 decision to John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Fischer Field at Mud Hollow Stadium. The contest marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The visiting Blue Streaks (7–7–3, 3–2–1 NCAC) took control early with a goal just 55 seconds into play. Sava Crnjak finished a cross from Andrew Massucci to give John Carroll a 1–0 lead. The Little Giants (6–11–0, 2–5–0) answered in the 26th minute when
Francisco Perez converted a penalty kick after a foul on the Blue Streaks' goalkeeper inside the box, tying the match at 1–1.
John Carroll regained the advantage 10 minutes later. Luka Pranjeta collected a loose ball on the right side and fired a shot from 19 yards out to put the Blue Streaks back in front 2–1 at the 36:40 mark. Wabash pressured heavily after halftime, outshooting John Carroll 12–3 in the second period and earning five corner kicks, but could not find an equalizer. Massucci sealed the match with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute for the final 3–1 margin.
Myles Bernat led the Wabash attack with four shots, including two on goal, while
Ben Church added three attempts. Perez recorded his third goal of the season with the made PK attempt. Goalkeeper
Colin Sutter made four saves in 90 minutes of play.
John Carroll keeper Owen Szucs stopped five shots to earn the win. The Blue Streaks finished with 13 total shots to Wabash's 16, while the Little Giants held a 52–48 edge in possession percentage and a 6–5 advantage in second-half corner kicks.
Wabash will conclude its season next week on the road on Wednesday at Denison University.
