SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Wabash College opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a statement win Saturday, defeating previously unbeaten Wittenberg University 2-1 at Edwards-Maurer Stadium. The victory avenged a 2-0 loss to the Tigers in Springfield during the 2023 season and handed Wittenberg (7-1-3, 0-1 NCAC) its first defeat in 11 matches this fall.
Junior forward
Bryce Kinnaman put the Little Giants (5-6, 1-0 NCAC) on the board in the 33rd minute, scoring his third goal of the season off an assist from
Danny Escobedo. Wittenberg pulled even in the 81st minute when Asher Donahue found the net from a feed by Cameron Corey for his eighth goal of the season.
Wabash responded less than three minutes later. Senior
Alfredo Campos scored the match-winner in the 84th minute, finishing a setup from
Francisco Perez for his first goal of the year to secure the conference-opening victory.
Goalkeeper
Ansel Rincon made four second-half saves to preserve the win, improving his record to 5-5. Wabash totaled 12 shots to Wittenberg's 14, while the Tigers held a 54–46 edge in possession percentage.
The Little Giants' defense held strong through a flurry of Wittenberg attacks late in the match to seal the victory.
Wabash continues its NCAC schedule with a home match against arch-rival DePauw University on Tuesday, October 7, at 4 p.m. at Fischer Field.
