CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Wabash College struck first Tuesday night, but visiting DePauw University stormed back with four unanswered goals in the second half to claim a 4-1 victory in a physical North Coast Athletic Conference men's soccer matchup at Fischer Field at Mud Hollow Stadium.
The loss dropped Wabash to 5-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in NCAC play. DePauw improved to 6-2-3 and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Freshman forward
Danny Escobedo put the Little Giants in front in the 18th minute with his second goal of the season, finishing a play set up by
Ben Church and
Ethan Simmons. Wabash held the 1-0 lead through halftime before DePauw's offense broke through shortly after the restart.
The Tigers controlled much of the second half, outshooting Wabash 21-16 for the match. Senior goalkeeper
Ansel Rincon made three saves for the Little Giants.
The rivalry clash featured 31 fouls and six yellow cards between the teams. Wabash was whistled for 17 fouls and cautioned three times, with bookings to Simmons (16'),
Alfredo Campos (53'), and James Prather (59').
Campos led the Little Giants with five shots, while senior
Myles Bernat recorded two shots on goal.
Wabash will look to bounce back in its next NCAC contest this Saturday at the College of Wooster.
