AURORA, Illinois --- The Wabash College volleyball split a pair of road contests Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants opened with a 3-0 win over St. Norbert before losing for only the second time this season, falling 3-0 to 14th-ranked Aurora.
Wabash (11-2) posted scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18 over St. Norbert in the day's opening match. The Little Giants never trailed in any set, allowing the Knights to tie the score twice in the first set and three times in the third.
Bawibawi Thang led the Wabash offense in the win over St. Nobert with 12 kills and a .474 attack percentage.
Will Beikes produced 32 assists with a .640 set percentage.
Patrick Volk served up three aces to help Wabash finish with eight in the game.
Piotr Wolan finished with a team-high eight digs.
Wabash stayed even with Aurora, ranked 14th in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, in the second match by forcing 26 ties with five lead changes in the three sets. The Little Giants gained a 7-6 advantage in the opening set before losing 25-22. The Spartans trailed 6-4 to Wabash in the second set before eventually taking a 13-12 lead. Aurora closed out the second set with a 25-17 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Little Giants took a 1-0 lead in the final set and matched Aurora point for point up to an 18-18 tie late in the contest. The Spartans scored back-to-back points and never trailed again, taking a 25-19 victory for a 3-0 overall win.
Thang scored ten kills for Wabash in the match against Aurora.
Zev Wolverton added eight kills. Beikes gave out 20 assists. Wolan and Thang each recorded nine digs for the Little Giants.
Wabash opens play in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League on Thursday, February 27, at Wittenberg University.
