CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Wabash College opened the scoring but could not hold off a second-half rally as Anderson University claimed a 2-1 win Wednesday evening at Fischer Field, snapping the Little Giants' 18-game winning streak over the visiting Ravens.
Danny Tkachuk put Wabash (3-3-0) in front in the 50th minute, finishing off a pass from Ben Church for his second goal of the season. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Anderson (3-2-0) tied the match less than nine minutes later on Brendan Hall's strike, assisted by Wesley Lewis.
The Ravens scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute when Lewis converted off a setup from Miles Tucker.
Wabash pressed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, generating 17 total shots to Anderson's eight and earning 10 corner kicks. The Little Giants nearly tied the match late in the second half when a shot clanged off the right post. Anderson goalkeeper Braydon Kennedy made five saves to preserve the victory.
Ansel Rincon stopped four shots in goal for Wabash. Francisco Perez and Jesse Martinez each recorded multiple shots on target for the Little Giants, who held a 56 percent edge in possession.
The loss marked Wabash's first setback to Anderson since 2000.
The Little Giants return to action Sept. 19 with a road match at Hanover College beginning at 4 p.m.
