Late Rally Sends Little GiantsTo 2-1 Loss At Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. — Wabash College held a lead for more than 70 minutes Friday afternoon, but a pair of late Hanover goals sent the Little Giants' soccer team to a 2-1 road loss at the Hanover Soccer Complex.

Angel Vazquez put Wabash (3-4-0) in front in the 15th minute, scoring his team-leading fourth goal of the season with an unassisted strike from the left side of the box. The Little Giants carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime after goalkeeper Ansel Rincon made two of his three saves in the opening period.

Wabash kept pressure on the Panthers (3-2-2) in the second half, firing five shots and earning three corner kicks. Hanover goalkeeper Rodrigo Gutierrez Olvera turned away six total Wabash attempts on target, including four after the break.

The Panthers finally broke through in the 86th minute when Miles McMillen scored the equalizer off assists from Andrew Pavlisko and McLain Barber. Just over two minutes later, Patricio Campos netted the game-winner with an unassisted shot to put Hanover ahead.

McMillen was issued a red card for dissent moments after his goal, but Hanover held on despite finishing a man down.

Wabash finished with nine shots, led by three on target from Jesse Martinez, while Hanover recorded 11 shots with five on goal. The Panthers also earned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and held 54 percent of possession.

The Little Giants continue their non-conference road trip with a match at Bluffton University on Sunday at 3 p.m..
