Wabash Unable To Hold Early Lead In Road Loss at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio — Wabash College grabbed an early lead but could not sustain it in a 5-1 loss at Bluffton University on Sunday afternoon.

Angel Vazquez put the Little Giants (3-4) in front in the eighth minute, finishing off an assist from Ben Church for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Bluffton (2-4-1) answered less than three minutes later on an unassisted strike by Nick Meyer, then moved in front 2-1 when Alex Brown scored in the 21st minute off a setup from Jaden Ngufor.

The Beavers carried the one-goal advantage into halftime before pulling away with three goals in the final 23 minutes. An own goal in the 68th minute extended the Bluffton lead to 3-1. Andrew Phillips added a tally in the 84th minute off a Meyer assist, and Meyer capped the scoring just two minutes later with his second goal of the day, assisted by Leonardo Campos.

Despite the scoreline, Wabash held a commanding 26-9 advantage in total shots, including six on goal. Bluffton goalkeeper Zach Johnson made five saves to secure the win, while Wabash keeper Colin Sutter recorded one save.

Vazquez, Brady Reiter, Alfredo Campos, and Daniel Tkachuk each generated multiple shots for the Little Giants, who came up empty despite sustained offensive pressure.

Wabash returns home Wednesday to face Adrian College at Fischer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
