The Wabash College tennis team competed in three matches on Saturday, opening the day with a nailbiting 4-3 win against North Central College in Greencastle. The Little Giants also hosted Franklin College and the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at the Collett Tennis Center, sweeping the Grizzlies 7-0, then falling to the Cougars 5-2.

Against North Central (1-2), Wabash (4-5) earned wins at number one and number three doubles to begin the match. The number one tandem of
Augusto Ghidini and
Rafael Rin claimed victory in a tight 7-6 match, while
Vittorio Bona and
Cole Shifferly secured a 6-4 win at the number three position. North Central claimed the number two doubles point with a 6-4 mark over
Murilo Guarniari and
Edmon Neto.

In singles play, Rin rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 win at number two singles, while Guarniari earned a straight-set 6-0, 6-4 victory at number three. At number five,
Edmon Neto battled to a 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 triumph to secure the Wabash team victory. In the remaining singles matches, North Central got the best of Shifferly at number one, (2-6, 6-1, 10-3), Ghidini at number four (6-4, 6-4), and Bona at number six (2-6, 6-1, 10-7).

Returning to the Collett Tennis Center, Wabash delivered a strong showing against Franklin (4-5). The Little Giants swept all three doubles matches, beginning with a 6-1 victory by
Tharakesh Ashokar and
Blake Discher II at number one.
Faustino Dimuro and
Matthew Haas fought for a 6-2 win at number two, while
Samuel Soto Garcia and
Eduardo Werneck completed the sweep at number three with a decisive 6-1 advantage.

Wabash carried that momentum into singles competition, earning victories across the entire lineup. Ashokar posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at number one singles, Discher II rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 (tiebreak) victory at number two, and Werneck secured number three outlasting his opponent 6-0, 5-7, 11-9. Dimuro recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four, while
Eric Tien claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number five. Soto Garcia capped the match with a 7-6, 6-2, 11-9 win at the number six position.

The Little Giants came up short in their final match of the day against Saint Francis (5-0). In doubles play, Ashokar and Haas earned a 6-4 victory in the number two slot, while Bona and Tien outlasted their opponents 7-5 at number three. The Cougars claimed the number one doubles point with a 6-2 win over Ghidini and Shifferly. Dimuro picked up the lone singles victory of the match with a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 showing at number six.

Saint Francis secured the match with wins at the top five singles positions. Shifferly fell 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 at number one, while Ghidini was topped 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2. Bona was edged at number three (6-4, 2-6, 13-1), Discher II came up short at number four (6-3, 6-2), and Werneck dropped a 0-6, 4-3, 10-1 battle at number five.
