CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Wabash College tennis team faced a stern test Saturday afternoon against 13th-ranked Kenyon College, with the visiting Owls claiming a 7-0 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at the Collett Tennis Center.
Wabash, now 5-6 overall and 0-2 in NCAC play, battled an unbeaten Kenyon squad that improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action. The Owls secured the doubles point and carried that momentum through singles to complete the sweep.
Kenyon claimed the doubles point by winning all three flights. At number one, Juozas Cioladis and Maximo Llamas Castellanos defeated
Augusto Ghidini and
Rafael Rin 6-2. The Owls clinched the point at number two doubles, where Jay Kedar Dixit and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling topped
Tharakesh Ashokar and
Cole Shifferly by a 6-2 score. The closest contest came at number three doubles, with Stylianos Papamichael and Rohan Sriram edging
Murilo Guarniari and
Edmon Neto 6-4.
In singles, Kenyon extended its lead with straight-set victories across the lineup. Pocasangre Kreling defeated Shifferly 6-3, 6-1 at number one, while Llamas Castellanos earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Guarniari at number two. Cioladis secured a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Ghidini at number three.
Wabash's most extended singles battle came at number four, where Ashokar pushed Sriram to a second-set tiebreak scenario before falling 6-2, 7-5. At number five, Sree Kondaveeti defeated Neto 6-1, 6-4, and Papamichael closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over
Vittorio Bona at number six.
The Little Giants begin their annual spring break trip on Monday, March 9, with a match against Washington College from Maryland at 8 am in Orlando, Florida.
