Little Giants Close Spring Break Trip With 4-0 Victory Over Hampden-Sydney

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Wabash College tennis team concluded its spring break trip with a decisive 4-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday evening in Orlando, Florida.

The Little Giants improved to 8-7 overall with the win, while Hampden-Sydney dropped to 3-5. Wabash secured the match by sweeping doubles play and winning three singles contests before the remaining matches were halted once the team result was decided.

Wabash established control early by claiming all three doubles matches. Murilo Guarniari and Edmon Neto earned a 6-2 victory at number-one doubles over Thomas Davis and Casey Coffey. At number two doubles, Augusto Ghidini and Samuel Soto Garcia defeated Slade Funderburk and Sam Robinson by the same 6-2 score. The Little Giants completed the doubles sweep at the number-three position, where Tharakesh Ashokar and Matthew Haas posted a 6-2 win against Emerson Rice and Jonathan Fogle.

The Little Giants quickly secured the team victory by winning three completed singles matches in straight sets. Ghidini delivered the most dominant performance of the day at number-three singles, defeating Coffey 6-0, 6-0. Edmon Neto added a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Fogle at number four singles to move Wabash closer to the clinching point.

Samuel Soto Garcia sealed the match for the Little Giants with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Landon Bivens at number six singles to give Wabash the fourth and deciding point.

Three additional singles matches were in progress when play was stopped after Wabash clinched the team result. Guarniari had won the first set 7-6 (7-3) against Davis at number-one singles. Ashokar held a 6-3 lead after the opening set and trailed 3-2 in the second against Rice at number two singles. At number five singles, Eduardo Werneck had won the first set 6-4 and was tied 4-4 in the second against Robinson.

Wabash returns to action March 21 with a road match at Ohio Northern University.
