CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Wabash saw its six-game winning streak to open the 2026 season come to an end Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Muskingum in the final match of the Robbie Dreher Soccer Classic.
The Little Giants (6-1) held a 23-9 advantage in shots and put 11 attempts on goal but could not overcome a pair of second-half goals by the Fighting Muskies. Muskingum goalkeeper Lucas Matesic made 10 saves to preserve the victory.
Wabash controlled much of the opening half, forcing Matesic to make six saves before the 25-minute mark. Bryce Kinnaman and Ethan Simmons put consecutive attempts on goal in the ninth and 10th minutes, while Kinnaman and Darinel Maus followed with additional shots on frame.
The Little Giants continued the pressure with corner kicks in the 22nd and 25th minutes. Kinnaman and Alex Burke each tested Matesic during the stretch, but the match remained scoreless at halftime.
Muskingum broke the deadlock in the second half on a goal by Jonathan Gonzales. Wabash answered at 67:13 when Alfredo Campos converted a pass from Gavin Glackman to even the match at 1-1.
Wabash continued to create scoring opportunities after tying the match. Kinnaman put another shot on goal, and the Little Giants produced three additional attempts surrounding a corner kick in the 72nd minute.
Connor Baldwin eventually put Muskingum back in front with what proved to be the game-winning goal for a 2-1 advantage.
The Little Giants mounted a sustained attack over the final 12 minutes, producing seven shots and six corner kicks from 78:36 through 88:06. Brady Reiter and Simmons each put late attempts on goal, but Matesic stopped both shots to keep Wabash from finding the equalizer.
Kinnaman led Wabash with five shots and four attempts on goal. Simmons finished with four shots and three on goal. Glackman recorded the assist on Campos' goal and added three shots.
Gonzales finished with a goal and an assist for Muskingum, while Baldwin scored on his only shot of the match. The Fighting Muskies put three of their nine total shots on goal.
Wabash returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, with a road match against Anderson University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Anderson, Indiana.
