Box Score 2 Two innings over the course of a pair of baseball games at Anderson sent the Little Giants home with 8-5 and 3-2 losses at the hands of the red-hot Ravens.
Anderson, winners of its last five games including a 7-6 victory at number-14 Manchester Tuesday evening, recorded a three-run third inning to erase a 3-0 Wabash lead in the second game. The Ravens tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly for the win.
Wabash jumped out to the game-two lead on an RBI single by freshman catcher
Justin Green in the second inning, a
Clint Scarborough single in the third, and a bases-loaded walk by Green later in the same frame.
The Little Giants could not hold the advantage as starting pitcher
Christian Vukas surrendered three earned runs in the third. He left the game after pitching four innings, allowing seven hits while striking out three.
Adam Boehm came on in relief for just the second time this season, giving up a leadoff hit and walk. The sophomore, who missed all of last season due to surgery on his pitching arm, struggled to find the plate. He threw three wild pitches in his one inning of work, including one with a runner on third to give up the eventual game-winning run.
Josh Piercey pitched the sixth inning, holding the Ravens to a pair of hits.
Wabash mounted a rally in the final inning thanks to a one-out single by
Andrew Rodgers.
Tyler Owensby, representing the tying run, drew a 3-2 count at the plate when a large storm rolled into the area, delaying the game 39 minutes. Owensby came back to face one pitch from reliever Andrew Enderle to strike out swinging. Scarborough tapped the next pitch back to the mound to end the contest.
The Little Giants collected five hits in the contest off singles by Rodgers, Owensby, Green,
Will McLachlan, and Scarborough --- who extended his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.
Wabash trailed Anderson 1-0 in the first contest before manufacturing four runs on six hits in the second inning.
Tyler Hampton drove in the first run with a single up the middle, followed by an RBI ground out by
Hayden Williams to give the Little Giants a 2-1 lead.
Tanner Watson's ground out scored a third run before
Lucas Stippler tacked on the final tally with a single up the middle.
The Ravens cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the second, but Stippler scored on a sacrifice fly by Owensby to extend the lead to three runs in the fifth inning.
That;s when Anderson (15-15) struck it big, scoring six runs on five hits with an error along with two intentional walks.
The Little Giants put a base runner on in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not cut into the Ravens' lead, eventually losing by three runs.
