Wabash turned in four first-place performances in Saturday's double-dual meet at Rose-Hulman.

Wabash Splits Swimming Duals at Rose

Wabash split a pair of swimming and diving dual contests Saturday. The Little Giants defeated Manchester 219-18 in one half of the competition but lost to host Rose-Hulman 181-113.
 
Wabash opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Jake Childress, Zechariah Banks, Carter Adams, and Chris McGue won with a time of 1:36.89. Aaron Troyer, Josh Bleisch, Clayton Highum, and Steve Batchelder combined to take third place, finishing in 1:40.15.
 
Jack Belford continued his strong start to the season by winning the 200-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 1:45.36, barely beating teammate Elliot Johns in second place (1:45.61). Belford also picked up a victory in the 500 free (4:49.50). Joel Paquin captured third place by finishing in 4:59.38. Johns took second in the 100 free (47.61) while Belford finished third (49.25). Paquin also scored a second-place finish in the 1,000 free (10:21.38) ahead of Arturo Granados in third (10:24.28).
 
Bleisch and Batchelder finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke. Bleisch won with a time of 1:00.97 with Batchelder touching in 1:01.37. The two reversed their order of finish in the 200 breastroke, finishing second and third with Batchelder stopping the clock at 2:15.88 and Bleisch posting a time of 2:16.58.
 
Childress added a pair of second-place efforts. He finished in 54.15 in the 100 backstroke and 1:58.59 in the 200 back. Troyer took fourth in both races, finishing with times of 55.98 and 2:03.69.
 
Adams scored a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:00.27. He took third place in the 100 fly (53.97). Banks finished second with a time of 2:01.08 in the 200-yard individual medley. Johns, Banks, and McGue scored a 2-3-4 effort in the 50 freestyle. Johns finished in 21.94, followed by Banks with a time of 22.46. McGue touched in 22.58.
 
Wabash closed out the meet with a second-place effort by Johns, Belford, Childress, and McGue in the 400 free relay (3:15.68).
 
The Little Giants return to action in two weeks when Wabash serves as the host of the annual Woehnker Invitational. The 800 relay, mile swim, and first day of diving begins Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. at the Class of 1950 Natatorium. Action resumes Saturday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m.
