Tennis Ends Season With 5-2 Victory in NCAC Tourney

Seniors Wade Miller and Nate Koelper closed out their Wabash careers by helping the Little Giants to a 5-2 victory over Wittenberg in the semifinal round of the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

The team victory came three weeks after the Little Giants lost a tough 5-4 contest to Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio.

Wabash opened Saturday's tourney action against the Tigers with a pair of doubles wins. Koelper and Mazin Hakim combined to score an 8-1 victory over Akbar Tiwana and Dennis Gleason. Mark Troiano and Graham McMullen swept Jialang Woo and Mitchell Patterson at number two doubles 8-0.

Miller recorded his final singles victory by scores of 7-5, 6-4 in the first flight over Stas Pakhomov. The North Montgomery High School product ended his career ranked fourth with 59 career victories. His 65 doubles wins also place him fourth on the Little Giants' all-time list.

After recording his doubles win, Koelper added a final singles victory, defeating Woo 6-2, 6-0. Koelper, a graduate of Concordia Lutheran in Fort Wayne, Indiana, tallied 49 singles wins for eighth place on the career wins list and tenth in doubles wins with 51.

Troiano closed out Saturday's match for Wabash with a 6-1, 6-0 score over Tiwana

Wabash, the number-seven seed entering the tournament, finishes with a 12-16 overall record and share fifth place with Oberlin College in the final NCAC standings.
