Wabash started its 2017 spring break trip with a match against one of the top-ranked NAIA programs in California. The Little Giants lost 6-3 to Westmont College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Little Giants' duo of
William Reifeis and
Andrew Denning scored an 8-3 victory over Luke Whalen and Christian Mathis at number two doubles. Whalen and Mathis are ranked sixth in the nation as a doubles team. Whalen is the top-ranked singles player in the West Region in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Patrick McAuley scored a victory at number four singles against John Joens in three sets. McAuley won 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. Joens and Phillip Sibbel are ranked number two in the region as doubles players, while Sibbel is the second-ranked singles player behind Whalen in the region.
Kirill Ivashchenko added the final team point for the Little Giants with a straight sets 6-3, 7-5 victory at sixth singles.
Wabash will play NCAA DI Youngstown State Thursday prior to completing its trip to California with a match against Carnegie Mellon Friday.
