The Wabash wrestling team traveled to Manchester University and handed the Spartans a 37-7 defeat to open the 2018-2019 dual-meet portion of the season.
The Little Giants began the night with an 8-2 win by
Kory Cavanaugh at 125 pounds over Joshua Stephenson to take a 3-0 lead in the team scoring. Manchester scored all of its points in the next two matches to move in front 7-3 before
Griffin Schermer scored a 15-0 technical fall at 149 pounds against Stevan Najeeb to put Wabash up 8-7.
Wabash dominated the match for the rest of the evening.
Alexander Barr pinned JaVon Phillips at the 3:38 mark of their 157-pound bout.
Jared Timberman added another six points with a fall at 1:34 against Stephen Kitko at 265 pounds.
Darden Schurg recently named the d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week, needed just 1:22 to score a pin in his 174-pound match versus DJ Bell.
Ethan Herrin scored a major decision with a 12-1 win against Tyler Leonhard at 184 pounds.
Levi Miller won the 197-pound match by a 12-10 decision versus Shane Stits.
Maxwell Bishop closed out the dual meet with a 12-2 major decision over Nick Joyner at heavyweight.
Wabash will compete at the Concordia (WI) Open on Saturday, November 17.
