Wabash College's James Day Named NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient

Senior wrestler is 23rd Little Giant to earn prestigious academic-athletic honor

Wabash College senior wrestler James Day has been selected as a recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Day is one of 42 winter-sport student-athletes from across all three NCAA divisions to receive the award as part of the 2025-26 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program. He becomes the 23rd student-athlete in Wabash College history to earn the prestigious honor, which provides a one-time $10,000 scholarship to be used toward postgraduate education.

A three-time wrestling All-American and four-time national tournament qualifier, Day was the runner-up at 133 pounds at the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in March. He previously placed third at 125 pounds at the 2024 national championships and finished fourth at 133 pounds in 2025. Day finished his career with 134 victories to rank sixth on the Wabash wrestling all-time victories list. He was also named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association 2026 Scholar All-America Team, one of five Little Giants recognized individually by the NWCA for their combined excellence in the classroom and on the mat.

"This is a tremendous honor and accomplishment for James," said Jim Peeples, Wabash College director of athletics. "The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship honors those student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and on the fields of competition. James has demonstrated that level of excellence his entire time at Wabash. It completes a great career as a student-athlete at Wabash College."

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the association's most accomplished student-athletes. To be eligible, candidates must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, perform with distinction in their sport and demonstrate leadership and service.
