Schurg Named d3wrestle.com 2019 Wrestler Of The Year

Wabash wrestler Darden Schurg, the 2019 NCAA Division III national champion at 174 pounds, has been named the d3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Year.
 
Schurg earned All-America honors for the second consecutive season by capturing the title at the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament. He defeated Mount Union's Jairod James, the defending weight class title holder, in overtime of the championship match in the 174-pound weight class with a takedown in the first nine seconds of the extra period. Schurg tied the bout at 3-3 with ten seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
 
Schurg finished the 2018-19 season with a record of 26-1, including an undefeated record against Division III opponents. He started the season by winning the 174-pound weight class at the Michigan State Open and added another individual title at the Concordia (WI) Open. Schurg spent the entire season ranked number one in the weight class. He is the second Little Giant to be named d3wrestle.com Wrestler of Year. Riley Lefever received the award in 2016 and 2017.
