Little Giants Finish Third At Mid-States Invite

NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana --- Wabash captured four individual titles and 12 top-eight finishes at the 2025 Mid-States Collegiate Invitational, held Saturday at Manchester University. The Little Giants finished third out of 13 teams competing at the event.
 
Wabash wrestlers Andrew Punzalan, Daniel Uribe, Chase Baczek, and Titus Waters won individual titles for the Little Giants. Punzalan earned two tech falls and recorded one pin on the way to a 4-0 record for the tournament to win the 125-pound weight class. Uribe scored three consecutive tech falls to go with two decisions for a five-win day to capture the title in the 149-pound weight class. Bazcek recorded two pins and earned a forfeit in the title match at 197 pounds for the 197-pound weight class title. Waters added four pins, including one in the championship bout at 285 pounds, for a 5-0 record for the day to capture the heavyweight title.
 
Anden Ankney earned a third-place finish at 149 pounds for Wabash, recording two pins and a major decision. Cooper McCloy scored three pins on the way to a five-win afternoon to finish in third place at 174 pounds. Andrew Ross picked up two wins on the way to a fourth-place finish at 157 pounds.
 
Wabash had two wrestlers finish in the top eight places of the 184-pound weight class. Zach Huckaby finished in fourth place after recording a tech fall in his opening bout. Zach Wagner pinned two opponents in the consolation bracket to finish in sixth place.
 
Elorm Nevis won two matches, one by a tech fall, in the championship bracket at 174 pounds. He added two more wins with a pin in his final matches in the consolation bracket to earn a fifth-place finish in the weight class. Sammy Saunders won four matches in the consolation bracket of the 197-pound weight class to finish fifth overall. He ended the day with a pin in the consolation semifinals before scoring a 19-16 sudden victory in the fifth-place match. Hadyn Ball recorded two pins in the consolation bracket at 197 pounds to earn an eighth-place finish overall.
 
Wabash finished with a total of 153.5 points to finish in third place in the team scoring. Baldwin Wallace won the team title with 186 points, followed by Manchester with 159 points.
 
Wabash will host the 2025 NCAA Division III Region V Tournament from February 28 to March 1.
