Wabash ties for Second at Timbergate Preview

EDINBURGH, Ind. — Wabash College finished tied for second at the Spalding University Timbergate Preview on Sunday, posting a two-round total of 596 at Timbergate Golf Club.
 
Grinnell won the 11-team event at 586, while Wabash and Hendrix shared the runner-up spot at 596. The Little Giants shot 295 in Saturday's first round and 301 in Sunday's final round.
 
Finn Carteaux led Wabash with a sixth-place individual finish, carding rounds of 72 and 74 for a 146 total, 2 over par. Leo Dellinger tied for seventh at 147 after rounds of 73 and 74.
 
Both leaned on timely birdies in the final round at the par-72, 6,945-yard layout.
 
Carteaux birdied the par-4 10th hole and the par-5 16th to post a 1-under 35 on the back nine, offsetting a 3-over 39 on the front.
 
Dellinger birdied the par-4 first hole to open his round, then added birdies at the par-3 11th and par-5 16th. He went out in 1-under 35 before coming home in 39.
 
Lucas Ranard tied for 12th at 151 with rounds of 75 and 76. Ranard caught fire on the back nine Sunday, carding a 2-under 34 with four birdies — at the par-4 10th, par-4 12th, par-4 15th and par-5 16th — after a difficult front nine that included a triple bogey and a double bogey.
 
Liam McAllister tied for 15th at 152 after rounds of 75 and 77. McAllister recorded three birdies in the final round, opening with a birdie on the par-4 first, adding another at the par-4 fifth and closing with a birdie at the par-4 18th.
 
Coen Bauschek rounded out the lineup, tying for 24th at 156 with rounds of 76 and 80. He birdied the par-5 16th in the final round.
 
The Wabash B team placed sixth at 621, shooting 310 and 311. Two B-team members posted significant improvement from the first round to the final round. Louis Leon Gryglewski cut seven strokes off his opening-round score, going from 83 to 76 to tie for 39th at 159. Antonio Grandinetti improved by five strokes, dropping from 85 to 80 to tie for 52nd at 165.
 
Charlie Seaburg and Mason Pierle each tied for 17th at 153, while Jacob Eble tied for 24th at 156.
 
Hendrix's Oliver Naumann earned medalist honors at 3 under with rounds of 69 and 72 for a 141 total.
