SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Sam Vaught posted an 11th-place finish Saturday to lead the Wabash College cross country team at the Grizzly Invitational hosted by Franklin College.

The Little Giants finished eighth in the 12-team field with 229 points. 

Rose-Hulman won the team title with 34 points and a combined time of 1:20:23. The Illinois Cross Country Club finished second with 70 points, followed by DePauw in third with 82. Centre placed fourth with 136 points, Rhodes was fifth with 158, Oberlin finished sixth with 166, and St. Mary-of-the-Woods took seventh with 209.

Wabash finished 11 points ahead of ninth-place Wilmington, which scored 240 points, and 12 points in front of Hanover in 10th with 241. Host Franklin finished 11th with 282 points, while FC Elite placed 12th with 298.

Vaught completed the race in 16:19.3, averaging 5:15.2 per mile to earn his 11th-place finish. Cooper Knoblauch was the second Wabash runner across the finish line, placing 43rd overall in 16:51.0 and scoring 38 team points.

Johnathan Loney finished 60th overall in 17:08.1 to add 49 points to the Wabash team score. Austin Baugh placed 97th in 17:44.0 and scored 61 points. Raul Delgado completed the Little Giants' scoring five with a 123rd-place finish in 18:06.1, adding 70 points.

Evan Shupe crossed the finish line in 18:21.2 to place 137th overall, followed by Malcolm Cruz in 150th place with a time of 18:44.9. Owen Dilley finished 158th in 19:06.1, while Nash O'Hanlon placed 175th in 19:57.3. Kaiden McGuire followed in 176th place with a time of 19:59.2.

Nathan Hollcraft finished 185th overall in 20:26.9, and Austin Jewell completed the Wabash lineup with a 193rd-place finish in 21:14.5.

Wabash returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
