Tennis Splits With Win Over Oberlin, Loss to Elmhurst

The Wabash tennis team rallied Saturday for a 5-4 home victory over Oberlin College in the morning session of action at the Collett Tennis Center. Wabash dropped a 6-3 decision to Elmhurst College in the final match of the day.

The Little Giants took a 2-1 lead against Oberlin after the doubles round, thanks to victories by the teams of Daniel Delgado and Nate Koelper and Evan Bayless and Ian Leonard. Delgado and Koelper combined for a 9-8 victory in the second doubles flight. Bayless and Leonard scored an 8-6 victory at third doubles.

Delgado added a straight-sets 6-2, 6-2 victory at number two singles. Leonard scored a 7-5, 6-3 win at fourth singles. With the match on the line, Koelper rebounded from a 6-1 first-set loss to win 6-3, 6-4 in the final two sets at fifth singles to give the Little Giants the victory.

The second and third doubles teams were both winners for Wabash in the nightcap against Elmhurst. Delgado and Koelper took an 8-3 win in the second flight, while Bayless and Leonard were 8-5 winners at third doubles. Leonard picked up the only victory in singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the number-four slot.

Wabash is 5-2 overall for the season. The Little Giants will play host to Illinois Wesleyan University on Tuesday.
