Wabash Tennis Battles to 5-4 Win over Lake Forest

A strong singles effort for the Little Giants led to a 5-4 victory for the Wabash tennis team over Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon at the Collett Tennis Center.

Wabash captured the final four singles matches to claim the one-point team victory over the Foresters.

Lake Forest won number one and two doubles, but Evan Bayless and Ian Leonard combined for an 8-6 victory in the third flight to score the first team point for the Little Giants. The Foresters picked up wins at number one and two singles, but Peter Gunderman rallied from a first-set loss (2-6) to win 6-2, 6-3 at number three singles to begin the rally.

Leonard picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at number four singles, with Nate Koelper adding a three-set 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4 win in the fifth flight. Phil Kubisz locked up the overall win for Wabash with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number six singles.

The Little Giants improved to 11-6 with the victory, giving head coach Jason Hutchinson his 97th career win. Wabash will serve as hosts for the annual Kerry Seward Memorial Tennis Tournament next weekend.
