The Wabash tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches at Oberlin College Saturday afternoon. The Little Giants lost 5-4 to the host Yeomen in the morning session before rallying for an 8-1 victory over the College of Wooster in the afternoon.
Ian Leonard and
Phil Kubisz combined for an 8-3 win at number three doubles against Oberlin — the only victory in doubles play for the Little Giants.
Wade Miller scored a straight sets 7-5, 6-3 win at number one singles. Leonard added a come-from-behind victory at number five singles (3-6, 7-5, 6-3). Kubisz closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the sixth singles flight.
Wabash swept doubles play against the Fighting Scots.
Daniel Delgado and
Mark Troiano won 8-3 at number one doubles. Miller and
Nate Koelper picked up an 8-4 victory in the second flight. Leonard and Kubisz recorded their second victory of the day with an 8-4 win in the third flight.
Miller took a 6-1, 7-6 (1) victory at number one singles. Delgado scored a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win in the second flight. Koelper forced three sets before picking up a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory at number three singles. Troiano cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 fourth singles victory. Leonard ended the day with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win at number five singles.
Wabash (3-3) returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a home match against Earlham College. Doubles play begins at 5 p.m. at the Collett Tennis Center.
