Wabash Tennis Earns Two Home Victories

Phil Kubisz scored wins at sixth singles and third doubles versus Monmouth and Westminster.

The Little Giant tennis team picked up two wins Saturday to move over .500 for the season. Wabash won 6-3 over Monmouth College in the morning, then scored a 9-0 victory over Westminster (MO) in the nightcap.

Ian Leonard and Phil Kubisz combined for the lone doubles victory for the Little Giants with a perfect 8-0 score in the third flight. Wade Miller picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at number one singles. Daniel Delgado fought back for a three-set win at number two doubles (3-6, 6-1, 10-8). Mark Troiano added a straight sets 6-1, 6-4 victory in the fourth singles flight. Leonard won 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles, while Kubisz scored a 6-1, 6-0 win in the sixth single flight.

Wabash dominated the match versus Westminster, starting with a 8-4 win by Delgado and Troiano at number one doubles. Miller and Nate Koelper earned an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Leonard and Kubisz won a tiebreaker at number three doubles by a score of 9-8 (9-7).

Miller earned his second individual win of the day with a 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 10-4 victory in the first single flight. The remaining singles matches ended in straight sets. Delgado won 6-1, 6-3 at two singles. Koelper picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win in the third flight. Troiano took a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth singles. Leonard cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Kubisz closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Wabash (5-4) will take the week off before traveling to Florida for a series of matches during the College's spring break March 2-10.
