Tennis Sweeps Saturday Home Series

Ian Leonard battled to win a third-set tiebreaker in the Little Giants' 6-3 win over Cornerstone Saturday evening.

Wabash scored a pair of tennis victories on Saturday, starting with a 9-0 sweep of Hanover at the Collett Tennis Center. The Little Giants finished the night with a 6-3 win against Cornerstone.

The Little Giant duo of Daniel Delgado and Mark Troiano won 8-2 to open the morning match against Hanover at number one doubles. Wade Miller and Nate Koelper picked up an 8-5 victory in the second doubles flight. Ian Leonard and Phi Kubisz completed the doubles rout with an 8-1 win in the third flight.

All six Wabash players scored straight-set wins in singles play against the Panthers. Kubisz won every game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles. Leonard nearly matched the performance with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number five singles. Troiano won 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles, while Delgado and Koelper were 6-2, 6-1 winners at number two and number three singles, respectively. Miller picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at number one singles.

The Little Giants took all three doubles matches in the second contest versus Cornerstone. Delgado and Troiano won 8-4 in the first flight. Miller and Koelper won 8-2 in the second flight, while Kubisz and Leonard scored an 8-2 victory at third doubles.

Wabash scored its remaining points in fourth through sixth singles to earn the team victory. Kubisz cruised once again to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the sixth flight. Troiano picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory in fourth singles. Leonard battled back from a second-set loss at fifth singles for a 12-10 victory in the tiebreaker on the way to a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 win.

Wabash (9-6) returns to action Wednesday with a home match against Rose-Hulman at 6 p.m.
