Tennis Splits Opening Matches in Florida

Mark Troiano earned a pair of wins in singles and doubles play in a 9-0 win against Berry College Monday in Orlando, Florida. He forced three sets in his singles match versus Coe Collee in a 9-0 loss for Wabash.

Wabash opened play during its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of matches Monday. The Little Giants lost 9-0 to Coe College in the morning before rallying for a 9-0 victory against Berry College in the evening.

Daniel Delgado and Mark Troiano earned an 8-6 win at number one doubles over Berry to score the first point of the evening match. Wade Miller and Nate Koelper picked up an 8-3 win at number two doubles. Ian Leonard and Phil Kubisz scored an 8-4 win in the third doubles flight.

Miller captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one singles. Delgado was a 6-0, 6-0 victor in the second singles flight. Koelper won 7-5, 6-4 in the third flight. Troiano added a straight-sets 6-0, 6-4 victory at number four singles. Leonard split the first two sets of his fifth-singles flight before earning a 6-3, 1-6, 8-0 win in the third set. Kubisz closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number six singles.

Troiano won the opening set in his morning competition against Coe at number four singles before losing 3-6, 6-3, 10-5. Coe took the remaining five singles matches in straight sets and swept the three doubles matches for a 9-0 victory.

Wabash (6-5) returns to action Tuesday with a noon match against Clark University.
