Wabash represented the North Coast Athletic Conference in fine fashion Friday evening, earning a 5-2 win over Calvin College and 5-0 victory over Alma College at the NCAC-MIAA Challenge at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
The Little Giants opened annual battle between NCAC and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association squads with the win over Calvin.
Wade Miller and
Daniel Delgado combined for a 9-7 victory at number one doubles, while
Ian Leonard and
Drew Sawyer scored an 8-6 victory at number three doubles.
Delgado picked up a three-set victory at number two singles, winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (1).
Nate Koelper earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory at number four singles.
Ian Leonard locked up the team win with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win at number five singles.
Wabash swept Alma in the afternoon match, starting with an 8-2 win by Miller and Delgado at number one doubles.
Mark Troiano and Koelper won 8-4 at number three doubles. Leonard and Sawyer picked up an 8-6 win in the third doubles flight.
Troiano scored a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles, while Koelper's 6-1, 6-1 win in the fourth singles flight locked up the win for Wabash.
The Little Giants will face the host Hope College squad Saturday at noon.
