Little Giants Sweep First Day of NCAC-MIAA Tennis Challenge

Senior Wade Miller picked up four victories Friday in the NCAC-MIAA Tennis Challenge. Wabash scored victories over Alma College (7-2) and Calvin (8-1).

Wabash capture a pair of victories in the first day of competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference - Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Tennis Challenge.

The Little Giants opened the day with a 7-2 victory over Alma College. Wabash posted an 8-1 win versus Calvin College in the afternoon at the Collett Tennis Center. Wabash is serving as the host school for the event with matches being played at the College and at Crawfordsville High School.

Wade Miller and Michael Makio scored an 8-6 win at number two doubles versus Alma to start Wabash on the winning path in the morning session. Mark Troiano and Graham McMullen added an 8-4 victory in the second doubles flight. Miller earned a three-set win at number one singles by rallying in the final two sets (4-6, 6-4, 10-2). Troiano won 6-2, 6-1 in the second singles flight, while Makio took a 6-3, 6-2 decision McMullen won every game in a 6-0, 6-0 contest at number five singles. Nate Koelper completed the team scoring with a 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth singles flight.

The Little Giants captured two of the three doubles matches. Miller and Makio scored an 8-2 win in the first flight while Troiano and McMullen matched that tally with an 8-4 win at two doubles. Troiano added a 6-1, 7-5 victory at number two singles. Koelper won 6-2, 6-0 at number four singles, as did McMullen at number five singles (6-2, 6-0). Mazin Hakim picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in the sixth singles flight.

Makio and Miller fought to three-set victories in their singles matches. Makio won 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the third flight. Miller took a thriller at number one singles with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 match with a score of 7-2 in the final tie-breaking set.

Wabash (11-12) wall face Hope College at 10 a.m. at the Collett Tennis Center Saturday.
