Wabash Tennis Match Ends in One-Point Loss at Wittenberg

Senior Nate Koelper scored wins in singles and doubles play in the Little Giants' 5-4 loss Saturday at Wittenberg.

Wabash battled to a one-point decision in a 5-4 North Coast Athletic Conference West Division loss at Wittenberg Saturday morning.

The Little Giants opened with a pair of wins in doubles play. Nate Koelper and Mazin Hakin scored an 8-3 victory in the second flight. Wade Miller and Nathan Neal captured an 8-4 win at number three doubles.

Koelper added a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets win playing at number three singles. Freshman Graham McMuller scored a 6-2, 6-2 win at number four singles for the final team point for Wabash. The key match came in the sixth singles flight. Neal rallied from a 6-2 loss in the first set to take a 7-6 victory with an 8-6 edge in the tiebreaker to force a third set before Mitchell Patterson took the team point with a 6-0 win.

The Little Giants are 8-1 overall and move to 1-1 against NCAC West Division opponents. Wittenberg is 9-4 overall and 1-1 in conference matches. Wabash will play host to Illinois Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon before serving as the host school for the annual NCAC-MIAA Challenge beginning Friday morning.
