Tennis Drops One-Point Contest to IWU

Nathan Neal scored a three-sets victory in singles play and combined with Mazin Hakim for an 8-2 win in doubles action against Illinois Wesleyan Tuesday evening.

For the second consecutive match a single point determined the final outcome for the Wabash tennis team. The Little Giants lost a home match 5-4 to Illinois Wesleyan Tuesday evening.

Wabash trailed 2-1 after Mazin Hakim and Nathan Neal combined for the only doubles point with an 8-2 victory in the third flight. Hakim scored a second point with a straight sets victory (6-3, 6-2) at number five singles. Neal battled to take a three-set win at sixth singles with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. Graham McMullen picked up the final point for the Little Giants with an impressive 6-3, 6-0 victory at number four singles.

Wabash (8-12) heads to Terre Haute Wednesday to play Rose-Hulman at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Little Giants will serve as hosts for the 2014 NCAC-MIAA Challenge beginning Friday at 9 a.m. at the Collett Tennis Center and Crawfordsville High School. Wittenberg, Ohio Wesleyan, and the Little Giant team will represent the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Hope, Calvin, and Alma will travel to Crawfordsville from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday, April 11
Wabash vs. Alma (9 a.m. at Wabash)
Hope vs. OWU (9 a.m. at CHS)
Calvin vs. Wittenberg (11:30 a.m. at Wabash)
Wabash vs. Calvin (2 p.m. at Wabash)
