Tennis Cruises to 9-0 Win Versus OWU

The Wabash tennis team backed up its new regional ranking by claiming a 9-0 win Saturday versus Ohio Wesleyan University in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

The Little Giants entered the match 11th in the Central Region in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association spring rankings. Weather conditions forced Saturday's match to be moved to the Jasper Tennis Center on the Kenyon College campus.

Daniel Delgado and William Reifeis, ranked third in the region as a doubles team, won an 8-6 decision in the first flight to improve to 17-1 in duals this year. The victory also gave Delgado his 69th career doubles victory, moving him to second place past Evan Bayless (68) and four away from tying Ian Leonard for the school record.

Michael Makio and Mark Troiano scored an 8-5 win at number two doubles. Mazin Hakim and Graham McMullen blanked their opposition 8-0 at number three doubles.

Delgado scored a straight-sets 6-2, 6-4 win at number one singles. He started the day ranked 22nd in the region in singles. Makio scored a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the second singles flight. Trioano picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. Reifeis needed three sets before taking a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10) victory at fourth singles. McMullen won a super set 8-3 in the fifth single flight, while Nicholas Pollock scored an 8-6 super set win at sixth singles.

Wabash moved to 16-4 with the victory, two wins away from tying the school record for single-season victories. The Little Giants are 1-0 against NCAC West Division opponents. Wabash plays at home against Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. next Saturday in another NCAC West contest.
